ABOUT ME

My husband says trying to understand a writer's mind is like trying to catch fireflies in a jar, because said mind flits from one character to a bit of dialogue to a setting to a plot line to another character etc., so fast it is impossible to pin a single thought down to reality. Since he's been living with a writer and her mind for thirty six years, I suppose he might be on to something!

I've been a writer all my life, writing small poems and short stories for friends, but I never thought seriously about writing for publication. Then, even that kind of "hobby" writing was put on hold, as Life intervened in the way of marriage, children, college teaching, divorce, and remarriage to the love of my life. He and I built a ranch and bred, raised and trained Appaloosa horses for the show ring.  It wasn't until we retired that I returned to the wonderous world of words, and realized they could turn reality into the realm of fantasy, magic, and make-believe for kids and teens.

After graduation from several advanced writing courses with the Institute of Children's Literature, I took my writing seriously, and began writing for publication. Since 2008, I have published more than thirty short stories and non-fiction articles in national children's magazines, anthologies, and online.

My Middle Grade and Young Adult novels are published by Books We Love Publishing, Ltd, and include the following: The Freedom Thief, March, 2015; Cheers, Chocolate, and Other Disasters, March, 2015; Lily Leticia Langford and The Book of Practical Magic, April, 2015; and
Night Cries, Beneath the Possum Belly: Book One, released in August, 2015.

I am now working on the sequel to The Freedom Thief, and have also begun work on Book Two of the Beneath the Possum Belly trilogy.

I live on the beautiful Central Coast of California with my husband, our extraordinary (!) Corgi, and lazy Himalayan/Siamese cat.
